Where are they now? Dylan Vassallo

Tranmere Rovers Sports College and Centre of Development has a proven track record of producing talented footballers whilst, at the same time, providing them with the qualifications they need both in sports and out of sports.

In this series of articles we will look back on some examples of this, starting with Dylan Vassallo.

Dylan came to the college in 2016-17 with clear talent on the football pitch and also a desire to develop as a person off the pitch in terms of his education and qualifications.

Whilst gaining his BTEC qualifications at the college, Dylan was catching the eye of then first team management, Gary Brabin and Paul Carden. After being invited to train with the first team alongside players such as Steve McNulty, Jay Harris and James Norwood, Dylan was then included in the first team squad for a friendly against Northwich Victoria.

Coming off the bench in the second half, Vassallo fired a brilliant volley into the top corner to put Tranmere into a 2-0 lead. Playing on the left wing, Dylan more than held his own playing in the Rovers first team.

Having picked up on his stand out performances in the college leagues, Warrington Town were keen to sign Dylan on a semi-professional contract in 2018. Former Rovers Assistant Paul Carden was the manager at Cantilever Park and knew all about Dylan’s quality.

Dylan became a key member in the Warrington side in the following years and was a real attacking threat for them.

Whilst continuing his footballing career, Dylan was still completing his HND qualification (degree) at Tranmere Rovers and was receiving all the support and advice he needed from our tutors and coaches at the college.

In his best season yet, Dylan picked up Young Player of the Season for Warrington and again climbed the footballing pyramid by signing for National League North side Southport. He has hit the ground running at The Port having recently scored the winning goal against Chorley and will be aiming to carry on his rise up the footballing leagues.

Everyone at Tranmere Rovers College and Centre of Development takes great pride in seeing Dylan thrive, not just on the pitch but also with the qualifications he has gained whilst at the college.

Keep it up, Dylan!
